Swing and a Miss

I recently went for a new professional opportunity—and didn’t get it.
Oof. I thought I was a strong fit, I got excited, and… I wasn’t seriously considered. Just like that, a swing and a miss.
It actually felt like a whiff.
Of course, it stung. But I didn’t stay down for long—thank you, Positive Intelligence! That daily mental fitness practice helped me shift from disappointment to curiosity. What could I learn from this?
Turns out, quite a bit.
This experience gave me clarity: I discovered what why it was important to me and that I want to build more community into my work. And once I saw that gap, I also saw ways to fill it. That was the gift this setback gave me—insight I might have missed had I not stepped up to the plate.
So I’m asking you: Have you had a swing and a miss recently?
If so, take a breath and reflect:
What did the experience reveal about what you value?
What might it be pointing you toward?
What learnings might you miss if you don’t pause to look?
Disappointments aren’t easy—but they’re rich with direction if we let them be. And sometimes, a miss is what helps us aim better next time.
